I was at Walmart gathering supplies for our weekend trip. I’d found the graham crackers and Hershey bars, but I could not find the most essential ingredient for the s’mores.
I asked a clerk, “Where are your marshmallows?”
She said, “We don’t have any. They’re out of season.”
Out of season? Marshmallows?
We live in a world where we expect everything to be available right now. But there used to be a time when certain foods could only be enjoyed in their proper season – when they were ripe and ready to eat.
Marshmallows?
In the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes we read these familiar words: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, NKJV.
Just like the changing seasons, our lives move through different times – times of joy and times of sorrow, times of light and times of darkness, times of abundance and times of scarcity, times of despair and times of hope, times of waiting and times of action. When we trust in God, we can find peace even when we don’t fully understand the season we’re in.
Jesus, too, lived by God’s perfect timing. He was born at the appointed time, began His ministry at the right moment and gave His life at the time set by the Father. And in the fullness of time, He will return. Until then, we walk by faith, trusting that God is with us in the Person of His Holy Spirit and is working for our good and His glory in every season of our lives.

REMEMBER & BELIEVE
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
In the meantime, God is with us in every season.
QUESTIONS
What season are you in right now? How is the Lord speaking to you while you’re in it?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the seasons of life. Help us to trust Your perfect timing, even when we don’t understand it. Teach us to embrace each moment with faith, knowing that You are always with us.
Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil and the evil one. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NRSV)
God bless you!
