LISTEN TO AUDIO

My friend Mia lives next door. When Susan and I moved into our neighborhood, Mia was one of the first to welcome us with her bright smile and warm heart.

Mia helps me pull weeds and rake leaves, and we have fascinating conversations. Mia is eight years old, yet her wisdom is surprising.

Our granddaughter, Sela, was about to have her fifth birthday, and Susan and I were thinking about what her present might be, something special that would give her joy.

At that time, Mia had just turned six and was therefore an expert about what it is like to be a five-year-old girl. So, I asked Mia for her advice about what we should give Sela for her birthday.

Mia thought for a while and with excitement said, “It has got to be about being a princess – a dress, and a tiara and, of course, a wand.”

“Mia, that’s perfect,” I said, “Thank you!”

Susan was out running errands and I called her and told her about Mia’s suggestion. She went by Learning Express and returned home with a princess dress, a tiara and, of course, a wand. It was perfect!

Sela loved her costume. She twirled around, a real princess, wearing her dress, tiara on her head and wand in her hand, radiating pure joy. She slept in that dress and didn’t take it off for days.

Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3, NIV

Sometimes, it helps to listen to the children.

REMEMBER & BELIEVE

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

In the meantime, let's listen to the children!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of children and the simple wisdom they bring into our lives. Help us to listen with open hearts to the lessons they teach us, just as Your Son Jesus taught us to embrace a childlike faith. Grant us the humility to learn from their innocence and the joy they find in little things. May we be reminded of Your kingdom through their eyes and be inspired to live with childlike purity and trust in You.

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil and the evil one. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NRSV)

God bless you!
