I was sitting in an examination chair as Dr. Torkildsen did a scan of my heart. He said, “Richard, I want you to see this.” He inclined and tilted my chair so that I could see the monitor. There it was – my heart, beating steadily, valves opening and closing in rhythm, blood flowing in and out – all in real time. And it wasn’t just a heart, it was my heart!
And then he said something that resonated deep within me, “You know, there’s design here. Lightning just didn’t hit a puddle of mud. This didn’t happen by accident.”
As I watched my heart, I thought, “That will preach!”
Some people see an either/or relationship between science and theology, believing that if one is true, the other cannot be. But the truth is that theology and science are not in conflict – they are complementary in revealing the mysteries of God’s creation. C. S. Lewis said, “Theology is the science of God.” While science attempts to answer the “What?”, “When?” and “How?” of our world, theology asks the deeper questions of “Who?” and “Why?”
The Bible says, “So God created humans in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27, NRSV
Even if lightning did strike a puddle of mud, it wasn’t by chance. That moment was orchestrated by Someone who created the puddle, the lightning, the process and ultimately, you and me.
Do you believe that Someone created you? That Someone is God! Get to know Him. And the best way to do that is to get to know His Son, Jesus Christ, Who came to reveal the heart of our Creator.
REMEMBER & BELIEVE
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
In the meantime, we are His creatures, designed and created by God.
We can know our Creator by knowing Jesus!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for creating each one of us. Open our eyes to see Your hand at work in the world and in our hearts. Guide us to live according to Your will, with hearts that trust in You.
Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil and the evil one. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NRSV)
God bless you!
