What do you do when you don’t know what to do?
My brother Bruce suffers from two health conditions. Sometimes when one of them flares up, the other complicates how the doctors deal with whatever is going on.
Once I received a call from his wife, Cindy. Bruce was in the hospital and they couldn’t figure out what to do. I rushed over and walked into the room. Bruce was unconscious. His vital signs were elevated and out of whack. The doctor looked at me and said something that I have never heard any doctor say, “We don’t know what to do.”
In that moment of uncertainty, I remembered the power of prayer. I said, “We can pray for him. Can we call every available person to stand by his side?” She left and within a few minutes, about ten people were in the room. We held hands, surrounded Bruce’s hospital bed, and we prayed.
I had to leave him for a while having no idea what the situation would be when I returned. When I did, Bruce was stable and conscious. And He recovered from that bout.
Praise the Lord!
The Bible speaks often about the importance of prayer:
“When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the LORD.” Jonah 2:7a, TLB
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” 1 John 5:14, NIV
The majority of my prayers seem to vacillate somewhere between “Help us Jesus!” and “Thank You Lord!”
When confronted with not knowing what to do, some folks try everything else, and when they’re all out of ideas, they think, “Well, we might as well pray. What have we got to lose?” But what if, instead, prayer is the first thing we do?
E. Stanley Jones, the Christian missionary, said, ““We do not shrug our shoulders, we bend the knee.”
When we don’t know what to do, we can pray!
REMEMBER & BELIEVE
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
In the meantime, pray!
QUESTION
What do you do when you don't know what to do?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, in moments of uncertainty and fear, we turn our hearts to You. When we don’t know what to do, remind us to seek You first. Strengthen our faith and grant us the courage to trust in Your wisdom and timing. Surround us with Your peace and guide us with Your love. May we always remember that in every situation, You are with us, ready to hear our prayers and answer according to Your will.
Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil and the evil one. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NRSV)
God bless you!
